HISTORY
Over 5,000 years of rich history embraces Northern Palm Beach County and Southern Martin County .
The native tribes of the Jeaga and Hobe, the Spanish, English and Seminole Indians left an indelible mark on the soul and soil of the coastal areas we enjoy today. In 1860 the iconic Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse was first lit to guide mariners through the most treacherous waters off the Florida coast. Civil War and settlers arrived in this wild Southeast Florida frontier and Industry brought paddlewheel steamboats, the railroad
and plantations.

In 2008, Congress passed a bill naming the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and surrounding 126 acres as an
Outstanding Natural Area. A rare federal designation (one of three in the country), that protects the Lighthouse
and its surrounding sensitive natural habitat as part of the National Conservation Lands.

Jonathan Dickinson State Park and the Loxahatchee River
have long been some of Florida’s most
beautiful scenic destinations. Here you’ll find an amazing natural wonder land full of Cypress Trees and a lush Florida habitat. Wildlife abounds with alligators, ospreys, herons, river otters and other species making a trip
on this river an unforgetable experience.

After 1955, Charles Martyn was very attracted to the Jupiter
Island area and discovered artifacts that he believed were of the Tekesta Indian tribe. Later renamed Tequesta. Dating back to 1890 Juno Beach was the county seat for the previously larger area of Dade County until 1900. After the Flagler Railroad came through, Juno Beach was renewed and became a beautiful oceanside town and resort community.

After 1959 in Palm Beach Gardens, John D. MacArthur planned on developing some 4,000 acres. The city grew from
cattle farms to the beautiful garden style community of today. In 1965 the city became the new home of the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) and today PGA draws interest from around the globe. Through steady growth for over 40 years Palm Beach Gardens has also become an excellent choice for living and working in Florida.
